MADE TO ORDER IN THE UK
LEUT was born out of a curiosity for working with fabrics. With a creative background in photography and smaller ventures, it was a medium I have always wanted to explore. With endless options when designing fabric and having different ideas about what I wanted to do, I started with something that had a personal resonance.
I have been fortunate to travel throughout Japan, each time deepening an appreciation and love for Japanese people, culture and design. I witnessed intricate Japanese craftsmanship within the textile and paper industries, learning more about how they incorporate slower methods while nurturing traditions.
The iconic Kimono, I felt, has always held such beauty, elegance and, of course, tradition.
During my last trip there, I bought a repurposed vintage Kimono, and it is such a unique piece to wear that will always remind me of my time in Japan. So, when designing fabric, I couldn’t think of a better template.
The Kimono also signifies much of what I see in LEUT, from the simplicity of the pattern to creating one-off pieces made to last. Married with my simple designs, I see them as versatile pieces that become treasured additions to any wardrobe.
I value a considered approach to creating, so I am offering a limited collection made locally, offered only a few times a year, so as not to overproduce or hold stock. The fabrics that I choose to work with are 100% Silk and 100% Linen.
The designs are printed locally in London using certified Azo dye-free dyes - this process combines pressure and dry heat, which does not require water to cure the dyes.
